The Needles district of Canyonlands National Park is a proverbial candy shop for hikers. It is full of exciting wonders. Trekking here is like walking through Willy Wonka's factory. Colorful spires of sandstone made of orange and white layers that look like twisty lollipops abound.
Everywhere you turn on this journey is exciting. There are monoliths, spires, and arches of every shape and size. You cannot wait to see what will be on the other side of the next canyon wall.
Not only is the hike out to Druid Arch constantly stimulating, it is technical. It is an obstacle course for adventurous hikers. You will climb ladders and boulders, scramble up steep cliffsides, scale smooth pour-offs, and creep along narrow ledges.
You cannot see Druid Arch until you are standing right in front of it. A canyon separates you from the arch, and it is a GIANT formation. The enormity of it is hard to describe, and like so many things the pictures do not compare. Abandon your comfort zone to experience this hikers' hike.
